Profile
Buncrana Lighthouse
The lighthouse was established on the 15th of January 1876 and stood on Buncrana pier. Initially, it used an oil lamp and was converted to acetylene in 1916 and then to electric in 1951. In 2009 it was condemned and removed.
The West Inishowen History & Heritage Society decided to save the restore the lighthouse. so after bringing it back to its former glory, it was re-erected on Buncrana Shorefront in 2010, next to the sundial and the Thomas Phillip “Tip” O’Neill statue.
