Profile
Buncrana Sundial
In 2014 Buncrana town council decided to build The Buncrana Sundial, which is eight metres in diameter, a monumental sundial and it was commissioned for the shorefront green in Buncrana.
Mr Piers Nicholson and Harriet James were asked to do the sundial calculations.
Local contractor, Mr George O’Hagan designed and made the tubular, 3-metre high stainless steel structure
There are four tall, rough-hewn pillar stones that possibly indicate the North, South, East and West points of the compass.
This sundial is in a splendid position on the shorefront next to the restored lighthouse and with the picturesque Lough Swilly in the background.
If you feel a bit hungry you should go to The Fisherman’s Warf about 150 metres up the road.
