Napoleonic Gun Battery

Rathmullen’s Napoleonic Gun Battery overlooks Lough Swilly and Inch Island and was built in 1810 during the Napoleonic Wars to help defend Ireland against a possible French Invasion.

The battery had a garrison of thirty men and was armed with two 5 1/2″ howitzers on the roof and five 25 pounder cannons behind the ramparts. The walls are 12 m high made from solid masonry.
