Profile
St Columba’s Church Clonmany
St Columba’s Church sits on the outskirts of the village of Clonmany on the road to Urris.
Legend has it that Colm Cille (St Columba) was originally going to build the monastery at Binion but the walls there fell three times he knew something was wrong.
He spotted a white dove pick three stones and fly off, it came back and lifted three grains and did the same.
The third time it picked three sticks, Colm Cille followed it and it landed at where the church is today. Colm Cille decided to build the church here instead.
The current church was built in 1772 and it has been roofless for over 100 years. A conservation group was formed in 2015 to take care of the site.
