Carndonagh is Inishowen’s second-largest town with a population of 2471 (2016).
The town is the site to the 7th century Donagh Cross which is one of the earliest Christian crosses outside mainland Europe. The cross is beautifully decorated with carvings. In the church grounds next to the cross, you can also see the Marigold Stone, this pillar Stone stands 1.68 metres tall and is approximately 43 cm wide and is carved on all four sides.
The Town is built around a central diamond and is dominated by the Sacred Heart Church which has been built in a Romanesque style. The Church has some fine statuary by the renowned sculptor, Albert Power, as well as many unique and interesting features.
