Lissadell House is situated on the scenic shores of Sligo Bay, it is a grand historical mansion that exudes timeless elegance and charm. This exquisite estate, set against the backdrop of the majestic Benbulben Mountain, offers visitors a glimpse into Ireland’s rich cultural and literary heritage.
Lissadell House is renowned as the childhood residence of Constance Markievicz, along with her sister Eva Gore-Booth and brother Josslyn Gore-Booth. Constance played a significant role in the 1916 Rising, becoming a prominent leader. She achieved another milestone by becoming the first woman elected to Dáil Eireann. During her tenure, she served as the Minister for Labour, marking a historic moment as the inaugural female minister in a modern Western European democracy.
