Buncrana Shore Path
This Coastal Walk is a scenic traffic-free walk between castle avenue in Buncrana and Stragill beach to the north. The path is 2.3 km one way
It is an extremely popular walk for the people who live in Buncrana.
The gently undulating path passes by lots of the historic sights around Buncrana. You will find Castle Bridge, O’Doherty’s Keep, Buncrana Castle, Swan Park, the lovely Porthaw Beach, Neds’s Point fort and Father Hegarty’s rock.
The walk also passes the Buncrana lifeboat station at ned’s point, a vital service for the area, which in 2018 alone saved 69 lives. You can follow them by clicking here.
Wildlife is abundant and the views in all directions are very impressive.
It is a great walk to take the kids and if the walk is getting too long for them a stop off at Porthaw Beach at around 1.5 km from castle avenue is a great place for the kids to have a break.
