Profile
Donegal Abbey
Donegal Abbey was built by the O’Donnells in 1474 by Finola O’Donnell after she persuaded her husband Hugh Roe O’Donnell to build the Franciscan Priory. The abbey overlooks Donegal Bay and now lies in ruins close to the Quayside where you can take boat trips out into the bay and to the cliffs of Slieve League.
The monastery was where The Annals of the Four Masters were written between 1632 and 1636.
