Burt is a small village spread over quite a large area, which can be found on the main road between Derry and Letterkenny (N13).
The village is the location for two of Inishowen’s most well-known monuments. On the summit of Greenan Mountain, we have the stone fort known as the Grianán of Aileach, with its spectacular views over Donegal, Derry and Tyrone.
There is also Burt Castle which is one of the most recognizable castles in Donegal. It is located on a small hill overlooking Lough Swilly and was built around 1560
In the village, we have the stunning St. Aengus Church, which was built in 1967 and its design was inspired by the Grianán of Aileach ring fort on the Mountain behind.
Close to the church, we have the An Grianan Hotel and the Old Church Visitor Center a small centre which focuses on local legends in Irish folklore.
Another activity which is just outside Burt is the Inch Wildlife Reserve and walk.
