The town is the largest in Donegal with a population nearing 20,000 it is known as the Cathedral Town as it is the only town in Donegal to have a Cathedral, which is called St Eunan’s Cathedral.
The town began as a market town at the begging of the 17th century and is still to this day the economic centre of the county with many multinational businesses and the main retail spot in Donegal. It is home to the Letterkenny Institute of Technology (LYIT). In the town, there are many activities to take part in including a theatre, multi-screen cinema, museum, sports complex and much more.
