Cloich Cheann Fhaola
In local mythology, this is the stone where Mac Aneely a local mainland chieftain was beheaded by Balor, the mythological king of Tory Island. A red stain said to be the blood of Mac Aneely can be seen on the stone.
The stone is called Cloich Cheann Fhaola – The Stone of the Head of Mac Aneely. You can read the full story here.
In 1774 Wybrant Olphert of Ballyconnell House raised the stone on a 16ft high pillar. The monument can be found next to CLG Chloich Cheann Fhaola’s pitch.
