Profile
Barrack Hill Park
Barrack Hill Park is right next to the Sacred Heart Church which dominates the Carndonagh skyline and can be accessed from the church by a small path; there is also a car park at the bottom of the park. The park was created in 2014 and was designed by well-known celebrity gardener Diarmuid Gavin.
In the park, you have a play park for younger kids and a small cycle cross-track and a basketball hoop for the teenagers as well. You will also find a couple of outdoor exercise machines and picnic tables. The gardens in the park have been made in a natural wild way to try and encourage bees and other insects.
At the top of the park, there is a public art sculpture called the Barrack Hill Heads. Aideen Doherty the Community and Enterprise Development officer said that “The public art element will add something iconic to the park”. There is also an allotment area for the keen gardeners in the local community.
If you would like something to eat after visiting the park you could go to The Butterbean Restaurant in the diamond.
