Crannog on Lough Fad
The remains of an ancient Crannog and the example of rock art can be found on Lough Fad, Meendoran located on the road between Buncrana and Carndonagh.
A crannog is an artificial island, built-in lochs and estuarine waters of Ireland, Scotland and Wales, They were used as dwelling places for over 500 years, for more information about them click here
In Inishowen, you can find lots of examples of ancient Rock Art but much of it is on private land and not accessible. But here at Lough Fad, you can find an example of rock art just meters from the road. The cup and ring marks can be clearly seen on the top of the rock.
